Web video: all together now

September 14, 2010

I have been utilizing web video in my teaching practices for quite awhile. Although with synchronous communication tools such as DimDim, Skype and others, the video “presence” of students and instructors facilitates a more one-to-one interactive feel. Despite concerns about the fragmentation and possible collapse of the Internet, as reported recently by The Economist, usage of web-based tools such as video is on a consistent rise.

What benefits and drawbacks can you see in your professional lives of the use of web video? Are there gaps in learning and development needs that can be filled by someone else’s presentation of information?
